Femi Kuti

World, Funk, Jazz
Afrobeat pioneer Femi Kuti, backed by his band the Positive Force, will perform. The son of influential Nigerian bandleader Fela, Femi Anijulapo Kuti continues his father's legacy of performing heavily percussive, horn-driven, politically-infused, Afro-beat music for enthusiastic fans across the world. Femi reveals an ever-expanding musical palette on his newest CD, 'Day By Day.' The new material is, like his previous work, a unique hybrid of Afro-pop, jazz and urban influences.

Black Moth Super Rainbow

Rock, Alternative, Electronic, Experimental (Incl. All Music Forms)
Based in Pittsburgh, Black Moth Super Rainbow has been around since 2002 and features an all analog sound, something like happy fuzzy pop and extremely psychedelic Krautrock. The songs are written from a folk perspective so the music never feels overly electronic and never sterile. Described as "dark bubblegum freakout" the band's sound is "refreshingly new and mysteriously futuristic," and features "tantalizing ear candy...analogue high speed chases, swirling synths crashing into each other and vocoded vocals."

Wolf Parade

Rock
Canadian indie pop combo Wolf Parade was formed in 2003 in Montreal, where their first show was opening for the Arcade Fire. From there Dan Boeckner, Spencer Krug, Hadji Bakara and Arlen Thompson recorded and self-released a four-song EP, and followed that with a six-song recording in 2004. They eventually gained the attention of Isaac Brock, and the Modest Mouse impresario then brought Wolf Parade to Sub Pop.

Liz Phair

Pop, Rock
Liz Phair's 1993 debut, 'Exile in Guyville,' raised eyebrows with its no-holds-barred lyrics on sex and other taboos. She broke out briefly a year later with 'Whip-Smart' to both a more critical and a larger fanbase, despite her not touring and little radio airplay. After marrying in 1995, she worked infrequently on some new songs and finally issued 'whitechocolatespaceegg' in 1998. Her 2003 self-titled album boasts a more pop oriented sound, with tracks such as 'Why Can't I?' and 'Extraordinary' garnering wide radio airplay. In 2005 Phair released 'Somebody's Miracle,' and in 2008 she celebrates the 15th anniversary of 'Exile in Guyville' with an expanded reissue with bonus tracks.
