Dancing Nancy was formed as a Dave Matthews tribute band in the summer of 2002, coinciding with the death of the lead singer's mother, Nancy S. Leetch. The name dancing nancy is the title of a dave matthew's song, and was chosen in memory of billy's mother. They play mostly dave matthew's music, combined with originals, some of which are available on this page, and a short list of various other band's covers, which can be found at www.dancingnancyband.com.
Billy Leetch has been performing music since age five. With this line-up, he sings lead and plays an acoustic guitar. He has also been seen playing keyboards formerly with Those Guys and Bobs Day Off. With the break up of Bob's Day Off, He, Tuna, Gitano, and Cj Martin started a new band which is called Remains of the Day. His voice is similar to that of Dave Matthews, and with an excellent sense of humor, he is a remarkable entertainer.
Gitano has been performing live for the past eleven years, and has been playing drums since age 3. His energy and skill make for a performance on stage that is nothing short of breathtaking. He has been with Bobs Day Off for the past six years with whom he won the WBRU Rock Hunt in 2001, and was voted part of the Best Band, and Best Album in the Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll in 2002. He is also a founding member of Remains of the Day.
On bass guitar is Bill Reed, he has been performing and working in the local music industry since 1985. He plays a wide range of instruments and is both an accomplished musician and sound engineer. With an ever changing look, Bill has been mistaken for Jesus, George Harrison, and Frank Zappa. Notice you never see those three in the same place, at the same time.
Rounding out the quartet is Craig Woodacre, on sax and flute. He is the former woodwinds section of the band the X-Tones, and can be found bartending at the St. James Irish Pub in Fall River MA, most nights when he's not playing in the band.
