Gallery, Art Show, Mixed Media
Asking six fiber artists to interpret “Tightly Bound” as technique or narrative has resulted in a vastly diverse body of contemporary and traditional fiber artworks. There are the technical explorations of binding fibers into felt and of tightly wrapped shibori dyeing. Illustrating the narrative are fiber-mixed media artworks along with a video.
Laverne Zabielski address a tightly bound tread in her writing, art, friends and family, in her work and in a collaborative piece with Marguerite Kellam. Using different felting techniques Dobree Adams and Jan Durham examine process as a way to bind fibers together.
In her video, Nicolette Lim explores the narrative of soft violence by entwining the characters with thread. A large plastic necklace is tightly bound by Arturo Alonzo Sandoval. Mixing clay and fiber April Wright explores concepts of sustainability, refinement, and growth.
Reception: July 20th -8 PM, with Gallery Hop
