My husband and I stopped in Cheapside recently and had a great experience. It was very crowded, so we had to wait for a table. The service was very good, even though the food took a little while to come out (our server told us that the kitchen was a little backed up--which was understandable given the crowd). We passed the time enjoying a couple of interesting martinis and the atmosphere. The food was very good, Cuban Pork Roast for me and a Brisket Sandwich for my husband. We will definitely be back.
I had lunch at Cheapside the other day, I drink their all the time and they usually have great live music. But our lunch was bland, overpriced, and I think the server insulted me when he brought us our drinks. The only positive thing I can say about the food is I'm glad I will never have to eat it again. I will be going back to the bar but never the restaurant.
Every time I go I get the same thing, but every time I go it's great.
A regular stop for my family.
The service is horrible ( 20 minutes without even taking our drink order) and the overpriced food is bland. We've tried - it never improves. The last time we went, we got so frustrated that we just walked out.
The media review is spot on; Cheapside is more about the atmosphere and drinks, with food on the side. I would classify it as a must-go for a typical sample of Lexington nightlife. They have a good beer and drink selection, and portions of the menu are good too.

Cheapside, a Lexington hangout for many years with an incredibly lively patio, has always felt more about the bar -- the live music of now, recorded music of decades past, and whomever your company is -- than about the cuisine. And while there are some standouts and signature dishes, this food is designed to complement cocktails and beers rather than to be savored with a bottle of midpriced wine by candlelight.
