I went with my friends for the first time to the Lex. Phil 'Patriotic' Concert yesterday. They have been trying to get us to go for years. They always go very early to get the best seating and view of the wonderfully talented orchestra and chorus. Musically I couldn't have been more pleased with the quality; however...
What happened to the 'patriotic' music?? Only 3 pieces actually were appropriate to the concert theme. The rest seemed to be a homage to show tunes and other countries. As we looked about us, we saw confusion on most of the other patrons who had also been expecting a more 'countryfied' version; folks dressed in red, white and blue; flags and other symbols of America strew about and displayed proudly. I truly think most were hoping for a recharge of hope and reaffirmation in these confusing times.
I truly enjoyed the concert and thank the Lex Phil for their talents and efforts; please don't feel my comment are anything negative toward the wonderful performance they produced. But what happened to the reason for the season???
