Big Love by Charles Mee may be considered an unconventional love story. In the beginning we see fifty brides fleeing their fifty grooms on the day of their arranged marriages seeking refuge in a villa on the coast of Italy. When the fifty grooms catch up with the brides, mayhem ensues: the grooms arriving by helicopter in their flight suits, women throwing themselves over and over again to the ground, pop songs and romantic dances, and, finally, unable to escape their forced marriages, 49 of the… Show more brides resort to extreme measures --‐ but one bride falls in love, about the same odds as today. In this modern re--‐making of one of the western world's oldest plays, The Suppliants by Aeschylus, Chuck Mee explores all the feelings men and women experience as love forces their strengths and weaknesses to surface – stubbornness, fear, lust, rage, tenderness, excitement, confusion, contentment, desire and for the lucky two, adoration.
