Central Kentucky Concert Band: B2: Not Just for Good Health

The Central Kentucky Concert Band is performing a musical composition that has never been played in the United States as a part of its “B2: Not Just Good for Health” concert. Antonio Rossi’s Alphabetical Suite has a prominent place in the upcoming concert on Sunday, February 24th at 3:00 pm in Haggin Auditorium at the Mitchell Fine Arts Center in Transylvania University. Part of the band’s three concert cycle, “B2” continues the alphabetical theme. The band will feature additional selections by Percy Grainger, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Holst and others. The band performs music that persons of all ages and musical backgrounds will enjoy—even if your music background is simply playing the radio.

The debut of a new selection will not be the only treat on Sunday. Dr. Pete LaRue, the band’s Music Director and Conductor says “We’re delighted that the exceptionally-talented clarinet soloist, Adria Dowd Sutherland, will be sharing her musical stylings with us this concert.” Mrs. Sutherland will be featured on Cavallini’s “Adagio and Tarantella”.

The concert is free and open to the public with no tickets required and will be followed by a reception.

The Central Kentucky Concert Band was formed in 1976 and is an outlet for adult musicians in the Central Kentucky region to play with an ensemble. Based at Transylvania University, the band performs three concerts each year along with an outdoor concert series throughout central Kentucky. It has received financial support from LexArts and private contributions and is a member of the Association of Concert Bands of America, Inc.
