The Lexington Cancer Foundation announces the first annual Roll
for the Cure this summer, offering cyclists… Show more and riders of all skill level the opportunity to raise money to be
put towards the fight against cancer! Participants can choose between 10, 25, 50 or 100 mile routes
through Lexington on the way to the heart of beautiful horse country.
“Roll for the Cure is designed for participation by riders of all skill levels. This is a community
wide event designed to accentuate the downtown community as well as our fabulous Central
Kentucky countryside,” said Jon Woodall, Roll for the Cure Committee Chair.
Roll for the Cure will kick-off from CentrePointe in downtown Lexington on the evening of Friday,
August 24, 2012. Riders and their guest will enjoy a buffet style carb load along with live entertainment
and testimonials by cancer survivors during the opening ceremony.
The ride will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012. Riders will depart at the High Street parking
lot, across from Rupp Arena. Routes will traverse through several Lexington neighborhoods and lead
riders into horse country. Several rest stops will be provided along the routes to allow riders to rest and
refuel as they enjoy Central Kentucky’s picturesque countryside. After the ride, all participants will gather
for a closing celebration at CentrePointe. The closing celebration will feature dinner and live
entertainment. This promises to be a signature event for the Lexington community.
There is no entry fee to participate in Roll for the Cure. All riders 12 and older are required to raise $500
towards the fight against cancer to participate. Riders are encouraged to exceed this fundraising goal.
Each rider will create their own fundraising webpage upon registration that will appear on the Roll for the
Cure website.
The event will benefit The Lexington Cancer Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness
and funds for cancer research. Annually, the organization makes significant grants available to worthy
nonprofits and medical centers throughout the state. Since 2004, over $4 million in cancer grants have
been awarded to organizations such as: The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, The
American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Central Baptist Hospital, Appalachian Regional Healthcare, The
Center for Courageous Kids and many more.
“The dollars generated by Roll for the Cure will provide (i) cancer specific education, (ii) cutting
edge research with a view towards finding a cure, and (iii) access to often overlooked personal
care needs for those patients currently in the fight against cancer,” said Woodall.
Sponsors for Roll for the Cure are ATS Construction, the Bluegrass Cycling Club, Green’s Toyota,
McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirkland, PLLC and many more. Special thanks to Kentucky Eagle
