HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?
Fruit, Flower & Vegetable Contest at the Lexington Lions Club Bluegrass Fair

The public is invited to participate in this year’s Fruit, Flower & Vegetable Contest that will be held July 14-15, 2012 at the Lexington Lions Club Bluegrass Fair at Masterson Station Park. The Fayette County Master Gardeners and Lexington Council Garden Clubs sponsor the event. There are no entry fees and ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded. If you grow it, you can show it! First-time… Show more participants will receive a gift for participating (while supplies last). Divisions of competition include Horticulture (specimens of fruits, vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals, roses, container plants, etc.), Design (artistic arrangements of flowers and other elements), Bees and Honey, and Youth (pre-school through age 17). Entries will be accepted Saturday, July 14 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am with judging at 1:00 pm. Show hours on Saturday and Sunday are from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm and viewing is free with Fair Admission.

This year’s nursery rhyme theme should prove to be interesting, especially in the Design division. Entries can be made in the ‘Peter Piper’ class (a design incorporating peppers), the ‘Polly, Put the Kettle On’ class (a design in a teapot) and other fun themes. The Fayette County Master Gardener Association nurtures the abilities of its members to assist the County Horticulture Agent with teaching the most reliable, safest, research-based gardening information. The Lexington Council Garden Clubs provide education, resources, and networking opportunities for its members and promote the love of gardening, floral design, civic, and environmental responsibility.
