Commerce Lexington Inc. was formed in January 2004 with the merger of the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Lexington United, and the Lexington Partnership for Workforce Development. Commerce Lexington Inc. seeks to promote economic development, job creation, and overall business growth in Lexington and its neighboring communities, while strengthening its existing businesses through the many programs and services that the organization offers. It was created to provide more continuity and enhanced focus in the areas of business, economic development, and workforce development.

Commerce Lexington is the business organization for the Bluegrass. On behalf of business, Commerce Lexington Inc. also works with local government and surrounding communities to enhance business and economic development opportunities in and around the Lexington area.
Commerce Lexington's Board of Directors is currently chaired by Ann McBrayer, president of Kentucky Eagle Beer. Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry and Vice Mayor Jim Gray are among those who also serve on the group's board of directors. Robert L. Quick, CCE, serves as President & CEO of Commerce Lexington Inc.
Commerce Lexington Inc. was created as an outgrowth of the "One Team, One Vision" economic development campaign in Lexington, which raised nearly $3 million for workforce development, business recruitment and outreach, and the promotion of start-up companies in Lexington.
