Lincoln and His Wife's Hometown, 1841-1850

In a period of 10 years, Lincoln visited Lexington on four separate occasions, three of which were for extended stays (two visits centered on family legal business at the 1806 Courthouse). During these stays, the future president was exposed to the “peculiar institution” of slavery — formulating his political views on the subject. The exhibit also features an interpretation of Occupied Lexington during the last year of the War Between the States.
