Bohannons Books located at 152 East Main Street in historic downtown Georgetown is the dream of two former educators come true. Both Kay Vincent and Barbara Hoffman have always loved books. They have enjoyed every moment of the store they began in February 1997.
After they decided that this was a venture they really wanted to pursue, they began to buy books from many different sources. Soon they opened their door in a small shop located at West Main Street. After four years they moved their books about three blocks to a larger location. Actually they moved some of their books as a wagon train with children and adults pulling wagons and carrying books in boxes and in their arms. That made the move both exciting and fun.
One of the most rewarding experiences of this endeavor is not the books they own and the opportunities that they have to meet authors and know about new books, but the people they have met since they began. Although they both thought they know lots of people from teaching school, they found they had only met a fraction of Georgetonians.
They are many wonderful and kind readers in our town who have wholeheartedly given their support to the store. Tourists from all over the United States and many other countries visit the store. Every new day is an exciting adventure.
The business community has also shown their appreciation with the presentation of awards.
All of these experiences have made have proven that opening a bookstore in Georgetown was a worthwhile endeavor.
