Great Valentine's dinner at Main Street Cafe, Berea
On Feb. 14, we had dinner at Main Street Cafe in Berea. We were greeted by the owner. A server described the three festive Valentine's specials of the day.
Our choices were a Seafood Quartet (smoked salmon, crabcakes, shrimps and tilapia on a bed of wild rice), a vegetarian portabella-eggplant dish and a New York sirloin strip.
We chose the seafood quartet, which came with two sides, a tasty lobster soup as a starter, and a delicious homemade German chocolate cake. We enjoyed the whole experience. The restaurant is cozy with numerous mirrors on the ructic, red-brick wall, candles on the tables, and the server was alert and helpful. The restaurant was almost full, when we came, and people, mostly locals kept coming.

When the state proclaimed this small southern Madison County college town the "Artisan Capital of Kentucky," it was bound to draw the tourist traders. I went with two Berea natives to sample the wares of Main Street Cafe, a restaurant that depends on the kindness of tourists, not the locals. (Full review)
